Although I'...Nice post mate, I agree with a lot. Although I've not fought competitively myself I train in various style's of kick boxing and Filipino Martial Arts and as such have an interest in the technical aspect of MMA as well as the fights themselves. As you say, recent events have not been stale as such but they often don't seem to have the excitement they used to. A lot of this I believe is due to fighters coming from essentially an MMA production line. A favourite quote in the mma community is style's make fights. Very true but unlikely when most fighters have essentially the same basic skill set. I find many fighters now fight with the intention to not lose rather than going out there to win although there are some exceptions (take a bow Mr Rua). There are many, many martial arts out there that can be effectively applied to MMA but as you mention MMA is becoming an "art" in itself consisting of a particular set of techniques. Bruce Lee & Dan Inosanto revolutionised kung fu with the development of JKD / Jun Fan, Eddie Bravo broke the jiu jitsu mold when he developed the rubber guard, someone needs to do the same with modern mma. The guy's who have had continued success have generally been exceptional at one particular aspect - Shogun and thai boxing, Chuck and overhand right's, Matt Hughes and wrestling, Rickson is an exception, he's mythical and transcends the sport - not the "complete fighter" you mention. Personally, I feel MMA needs to go back to it's roots and remember the Martial Arts aspect of Mixed Martial ArtsMatt https://www.blogger.com/profile/13533088004511435071noreply@blogger.com
